This is actually tomorrow’s post, but I’m posting it early – my prerogative.

Almost two years ago some members of the Warm Glass Bulletin Board had a discussion on starting a new collaborative project. After a brainstorming session, we decided on a glass crazy quilt with a theme of Earth, Air, Fire and Water and I volunteered to coordinate this effort. My only restriction was that the glass tile had to be 8″ x8″ so the tiles were of uniform size. The artists could decided whether to include one of the elements or all four elements. The 32 artists (34 for the physical quilt) who participated are from all over the world – South Africa, Finland, Northern Ireland, Canada and the U.S.

The online unveiling was last year, right here on WordPress (thank you WordPress!). During the initial discussions someone mentioned that it would be great if the quilt could be installed somewhere and everyone was excited about that idea. After about six months had passed since the online unveiling, I initiated another discussion to see if people were still interested in an install somewhere, with an overwhelmingly positive response. I set about finding a site that would be suitable and the majority wanted a children’s hospital. I contacted Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane, WA and they were very interested. It has been quite a process and a very long journey, but the install and unveiling at SHCH is just a week away – June 16 at 2:00 p.m. Stop by the NICU on the third floor for the unveiling or anytime afterwards – you’ll see it as you walk down the hallway.
