For those who might be new to my blog, I am based in the Columbia Basin of Washington state. I love using natural light to capture agriculture, flowers, and the world around me. I also do portrait and pet photography, as the occasion arises.

How tweet it is

February 24, 2010

No, this has nothing to do with Twitter.  It’s about birds.  They go “tweet”.

The American Goldfinch, state bird of Washington, such a gorgeous little creature that likes to flit about my yard.  I had about five or six of them at my feeder this weekend, all in winter plumage.  This spring the males will be bright yellow with a spot of black on top of their heads, which you can see just a hint of in the left image.  The females won’t look much different than the ones in these images.

I just learned something. Since we don’t get these birds up here I had no idea they had winter plumage. Very interesting and such lovely images of these little darlings.

Tony, thanks for all the comments on my blog!

The light in these shots is beautiful. Definitely accentuates Goldfinch quite well.

Love this! If you took the right two images and switched them..the birds would be looking at each other like.. The opening of “The Brady Bunch” show! Ha! Hope all is well, K

Oh I so love that little one on the top right. He looks as though he is about to sing a love song to his beloved on a higher perch.
