For those who might be new to my blog, I am based in the Columbia Basin of Washington state. I love using natural light to capture agriculture, flowers, and the world around me. I also do portrait and pet photography, as the occasion arises.

Christmas in July and Sunday Spotlight

July 12, 2009

snowy birch

It was another 100°+ day yesterday – 101° to be exact.  Too hot to work out in the yard, although I did do a weed check of the front yard.  My front yard looks awesome, by the way, with the exception of a couple of dry spots in the lawn that just won’t green up.  Ugh.

Yesterday morning the dogs got me up at 5:30 am.  On a Saturday!  I sat down at my laptop at 6:00 am fully intent on catching up on blog visits, but I remembered that I didn’t get all of the files downloaded from www.brand-ography.com that I mentioned in a post a few days ago.  I got my download started and noticed a link that sounded interesting so I went there and spent a couple of hours (yes, hours) checking it out.  It led me to someplace else where I spent an hour or so, which led me to another site and then another site, and so on and so forth.  I did manage to get a nap in there somewhere.  Anyway, I didn’t get restarted on my blog catching up until later in the evening and I didn’t completely catch up.  I will finish that today.

Tomorrow I will share some of those resources and links with you.  I think I bookmarked them all (eyeroll).

Sunday Spotlight with international flare.

  • Luca Bobbiesi (aka BoB) is from Italy and he caught some spectacular light on his Memories in the Dust blog.
  • Mohammadreza Rezania from Iran has some very creative portraits.  Check out My Bit Life for more inspiration.
  • Olivier Jules is a master at HDR.  I’m not sure if this ocean shot is HDR or not, but I love it.  I do believe Olivier is from Italy.
  • Sebastian Wahsner of cozmopics.de does a lot of portrait shots.  He always captures the intensity of the eyes.  Sepp is from Germany.
More international friends next week.

The lensbaby works so well with this shot…love the blur and of course the cool feeling of the snow.
I hope this helps you to stay cool, it’s heating up again here too, after a few days of (welcomed) rain.

Oh, the endless trail of the internet. Isn’t it amazing how many hours you can spend going from one link to another?
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

PS ~ I’m glad I’m not the only one who gives into her dogs when they want to get up early on the weekends. 5:30 yesterday, 6:00 today at my house.

At 101° anything cold looks very appealing. I’ll be looking forward to the links you visited. Sounds interesting.

Snow this time of year would probably be better than the intense rain we have had for a week now :-) I totally understand how it’s possible to get cought up in different web sites if it’s interesting :-)

Thanks for the burst of cool! It’s 111 right now, ‘sposed to go to 114. But we’re used to it here :)

Thanks for the links. Luca is the only one I’m familiar with and he’s great.

Yes, I can spend hours and hours on the internet, too, going from blog to blog, link to link. That’s why every Sunday night I realize with a start that I didn’t get my weekend chores done and I have to head back to work with dirty laundry and a messy house still waiting for me. It’s so addictive. Where does the time go?!?!?

101… now that is hot!! We are still waiting on the really warm weather here. Waitin’ and hopin’ :-) . I, for one, am still marveling at the fact that we no longer have snow. Only six months til Christmas.. hard to believe!

I have banned myself from blog hopping now…I can easily waste a whole day doing it so I have to practice self control…(which is difficult for me)…and not wander.

Gosh that winter image of the birch tree makes me cringe — we have winter more months of the year than anything else as you know :) Mind you, I would not like 100 degree plus weather at all! I sure know what you mean about how easy it is to spend time chasing from site to site — on days when I do that I can’t believe how much catching up I have to do! :)
