For those who might be new to my blog, I am based in the Columbia Basin of Washington state. I love using natural light to capture agriculture, flowers, and the world around me. I also do portrait and pet photography, as the occasion arises.

A day late

July 7, 2009

snowy-bokeh

…and a dollar short.  Sunday was 100°.  I have no idea what the official temp was yesterday, as it wasn’t available at this writing, but it was much cooler and a whole lot windier.  I love all the little dots of bokeh in this shot, created from all the puppy dog  paw prints of Buddy and Buster.

I’ve been looking online for the last couple of months or longer for a “mother of the groom” dress.  The official mother of the bride dresses that you find on bridal dress sites are so over the top, not to mention expensive.  I’ve since been looking on other, more traditional, sites like jcrew.com, barriepace.com, macys.com, etc.  Do you have any suggestions as to where I can look online for a nice dress that would be wedding appropriate?  What are your favorite places to shop online?

I love puppy dog paw prints in the snow!

Those sound like good places to look for a nice suit / dress for the wedding. My mom wore a pretty, simple suit to my wedding, that had just a hint of sparkle. It was perfect. It’s a classic style that she has been able to wear again. I think she got it at Dillards.

    Good luck!

great idea for an image if you’re getting those kinds of temps! EEk.
I would likely steer away from those suits too. I think a nice fitting elegant cocktail dress is much nicer anyway. Since I live in Canada I don’t know the American stores. I haven’t checked but the stores I would hit in the city for something like that would include “Melanie Lynn”, “Devonshire Cream” or “J. Michaels” … I assume they must also be in the US and I LOVE their clothes. They always have a lovely selection of dresses.

This one reminds me of flying over the cascades and looking down through the plane window at all the snowy peaks.
As far as clothing goes…ouch…I am NOT a shopper at all. The only place I have bought clothing online is etsy….but that is probably a little too quirky for a wedding.
There is a place downtown that I have gotten some nice dresses for Christmas parties etc. I always tend to go for black…just because its easy and goes with all the shoes I have. They have an online store too.

    It is http://www.whitehouseblackmarket.com

How about Talbots or Chicos? I don’t shop much. I get so disgusted with price and fit I end up making something. I hope the wind has gone away. I have friends in Warden trying to harvest their canola fields.

Ahh, can I hop in, too, with your dogs? It’s gonna be 116 here this weekend and it was almost that today. I’m sorry but I don’t shop for clothes online: I’m sort of into instant gratification after much procrastination. Good luck, though.

I am partial to JCrew and Banana Republic. Which reminds me, I need to buy something for my sister’s wedding. She said it’s casual but I always love a good excuse to shop. ;)

    Toni,
I don’t know much about which stores for dresses, but as far as color and style go, I would stick with nothing sparkly or beaded and go with a nice champagne color. The other advice is to see what the Mother of the bride is wearing color-wise.. you really don’t want to show up with the same color to the wedding as she does.
