For those who might be new to my blog, I am based in the Columbia Basin of Washington state. I love using natural light to capture agriculture, flowers, and the world around me. I also do portrait and pet photography, as the occasion arises.

Hide and seek

June 24, 2009

hide-seek

I did a dumb thing last night.  Do you remember how I said yesterday that I was two-thirds of the way through processing the organic farm photos?  Well, I decided I had missed a couple of fields so I called B on my way home from work yesterday, just to see if I could stop and take a couple more photos.  B was there and we talked for a little bit.  It really is fascinating what he is working to implement on his farm, namely wildlife habitat, in addition to the organic crops.  He wants me to come back periodically through the growing season and hopefully we’ll be able to get some shots of some hawks, after they’ve hatched.

That part isn’t the dumb thing.  No, the dumb thing is I drove away with almost 200 more photos to process.  But I did get some peas and potatoes to bring home!  I also finished up processing the shots from last week.  Now I get to start on the new ones.  I would have used a farm image today, but when I wrote this (last night after 11:30 pm) I decided to import the new images into Lightroom before I exported a shot for today’s post.  Unfortunately it was still rendering the previews and I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer, so you are getting another shot of a sycamore tree from work that has nothing to do with anything that I’ve talked about.

Nothing dumb about that. I think 200 more pictures is a smart thing! :) I understand the more work involved, but I bet you have captured something you dont even realize …yet.

Funny, I seldom read the comments but something made my eyes land on Ken’s reply … I agree with him — I’ll bet you’ve captured some real gems in there. But you don’t actually process every one do you? You mean you have to sort through them, delete a whack of them, and then process the balance, right? :) I’m really looking forward to seeing some of these photos!!

Correct. I go through quickly the first time and delete the disasters. Then as I go through the remainder, I give each a thorough review and either process, delete or process and delete if it can’t be saved. I looked through last nights pretty quickly this morning and got rid of a few, but there are some good shots in there.

Love the light in this. There’s a sense of mystery..of not knowing what lies beneath and beyond.

That’s not dumb…. You keep clicking away! Your shots are beautiful! Maybe when the weather gets bad you can catch up on the processing.
