The Four: No. 7

April 16, 2009

chick

I went into the local farm supply yesterday with camera in hand.  I had been there over the weekend to pick up some items to finish building my fence and when I was there I was enchanted by lots of cute little chicks and a few ugly turkeys.  (Baby turkeys just aren’t as cute as baby chicks.)  Before I even got to the doors I could hear the cheep, cheep, cheep of the chicks.  There were banty chicks of different varieties, barred rock chicks, and these white leghorn chicks.  This little guy was hilarious.  He wasn’t satisfied with the food on his side of the tray, he kept trying to climb all the way through to eat from the opposite side.  Sounds like a guy thing, right?? Yeah, I thought so, too.

This is in response to a challenge by The Four - the seventh challenge that they have presented, which is:

“April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.”  ~William Shakespeare

Such a sweet, satisfying image. Great way to start the day. I’ve thought often about getting chickens ourselves. My parents have serious space & over 50. They’re great little pets & would do a great job ridding the garden of insects…I’m wondering now why we haven’t done it.

Darling image. I have a real soft spot for chicks and chickens. Brings back so many fond memories of home when I was young. That cheep cheep cheep is embedded deep in my mind … I can hear them.

You not only had cute chicks to shoot, but you had the patience to wait and get this little fellow in an eye-catching move. Good shooting.

OOH…they’re so cute! A couple weeks I was at the Ventura Fairgrounds where I happened upon a chicken show. It never occurred to me there would be such a thing but…wow, I never realized how many really beautiful varieties chickens come in.

Have you been conspiring with Elizabeth to take cute animal photos.
As far as the little chick goes, there is always one in the crowd. If they were pets he’d be the one you pick to take home.
