These are my boys, taken over 25+ years ago, at various ages (taken by a professional photographer, whose name I can no longer remember so I can’t give him his proper credit). I was just over 20 years old when I had my first son, married a little over a year at the time. Boy, was I ever young and…well, young. When you are young, you think you are so smart and so invincible. You are ready to take on the world and everything in it. What you don’t know is how much you don’t really know. One thing I do know is that I love my boys and wouldn’t change having them for anything.
I’ve been tagged by Shutter Sister Sarah Ji to participate in Her Bad Mother: Around the World in 80 Clicks project. It is a really cool project, so check it out, especially if I tag you to participate. [smile] I think most of the moms participating are at an earlier stage in motherhood than I am. My sons are adults. Wow! Adults! That means I’m old. They are YOUNG adults! Sometimes I questioned whether we’d make it to this stage or not. Motherhood isn’t always a bed of roses, you know…sometimes it is a bed of nails.
Five things I love about being a mom…
- I love seeing them reach the next milestone in their lives, whether it was learning to walk and talk or graduating from art school/college and now planning a wedding.
- I love knowing that they’ve both become successful men in their chosen careers and have made thoughtful decisions along the way that led them to where they are now.
- I love that we are all creative, each in our own way, whether it is with a camera, bits of glass, a paintbrush, a computer (for graphic design), or pots, pans and delicious ingredients.
- I love hearing that my son is taking an active role in planning his wedding, from picking out color swatches to designing the Save The Date card and wedding announcement.
- When the boys were little, I loved having them both snuggled up on my lap, reading their favorite books, over and over and over again, until my throat was raw. Because you just can’t read Cookie Monster and the Cookie Tree without doing the voice of Cookie Monster or the witch. Or The Poky Little Puppy, for that matter.
Now for the tagging…since the idea is to go around the world in 80 clicks, I tag Liss from Australia, Sebrina from Canada and Uhdd from northern England. And to my American friends who happen to be moms, you are tagged as well!!

What a great post Toni. I am sitting with a smile on my face as my five year old sits on my lap as I write this.

I like how your photographer posed and shot your youngsters in such an appealing way. These priceless photos should remind all of us to print out prize shots and don’t rely on digital storage keep shots safe 25 years from now!
