Tilting at windmills

March 15, 2009

windmill

Lately my dogs are tilting at windmills in the early morning hours when I’m trying to sleep.  I’m the windmill in that scenario.

Yesterday morning I was on Flickr, uploading some images to add to the Shutter Sisters groups and happened to notice that I had an email notification.  Someone added me as a contact and I had no clue who they were, so I went to check out their profile.  They had no images uploaded and around 2700 contacts.  All named Toni.  While I was scrolling through the contacts, about 300 more were added.  I was totally creeped out.  I checked again last night and this person was no longer active – Flickr must have kicked them off.  Thank goodness!

Love this windmill image! Such a perfectly simple composition.

Good thing you were “on your toes” regarding the Flickr situation. We get a little complacent, then something like that jolts us back to realizing that the Internet does have some “strange birds” out there.

This is a great shot Toni. I like the power and the zen and how it is felt at the same time.

Flickr has changed so much and not what it used to be in the beginning. I find myself blocking more people than I add as contacts. The internet, go figure.

A fine windmill shot. One of my strong memories from my “boy” days on the farm is the sound of a windmill turning, the pumping and the splash of cold water in a stock tank.

Love this image of the single windmill. As for the whole flickcr ‘contact’ thing – it’s all a little creepy too me.

This is such a beautiful photo. Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday (via shutter sisters). I have to tell you how funny it was to visit your website and realize that you are from Connell. The very same small town I grew up in before moving to Seattle where I currently live. I have wonderful childhood memories of swimming at the Tumbleweed motel, lol.

    What a small world…

There are so many weirdo’s out there in the blogosphere, Toni. I have encountered a good few during my time. Some are harmless and weird, others destructive and some down right evil. So many people I know have had unpleasant occurances on Face book and similar sites, and I simply will not even contemplate joining such groups, the horror stories I could tell you.

Even on AM3 I have had a couple of extremely unpleasant instances with people so nasty, that you wonder how they sleep at night.

This is a wonderful photograph, perfection in mono, and such a fabulous location to walk and take images. Off to work now, have a great day

That means 3000 odd people added a contact and had no idea who they were adding. It amazing me people don’t check. I think this would have creped me out too.

I think this photo is beautiful.

This is an absolutely perfect image Toni — perfect. The composition, the clarity, and your processing with that toning is excellent.

I am really leary at Flickr and always block anyone who makes me a contact if they don’t have photos, or photos ‘available to me’, or I see that their contacts are a bit weird by the ID photo. Good thing you were careful with that one.

Hey Mom. I really like this image. I think this is one of the strongest you’ve taken yet. I don’t care for the vignette (i think it competes with the openness of the field) or the sepia (i prefer B&W) but the composition/contrast is perfect.
