For those who might be new to my blog, I am based in the Columbia Basin of Washington state. I love using natural light to capture agriculture, flowers, and the world around me. I also do portrait and pet photography, as the occasion arises.

Old Yeller

February 13, 2009

Old Yeller, one

I think it was sometime last week that I posted a Lensbaby shot of this building -  here it is if you are interested in taking a peek.  One of my regular commenters, Terry from The Lake Life, who is NOT a fan of the Lensbaby (along with someone else, who shall remain nameless, but you can find that person in the comments section and she knows who she is) said, “I would love to see some shots of it with a normal lens so I could make out some of the detail.”  Well, Terry, ask and ye shall receive.  I’m not sure if you can see the details through the fog, but you’ll just have to make do, okay?  I still have no idea what this building was used for in its previous life.  It is just a half block off of main street, half way to the train tracks.

Old Yeller, two

While you are looking at the photos in awe and wonderment at how I got such fantastic shots, I would like for you to notice my new logo down there in the corner of each image.  Or you can just take a look at this really cool color version.  Anita, from Anita Roach Design + Photography Studios, did a fantastic job designing it for me.  Anita sent me a questionnaire to complete that would help her in creating the logo. I had some decisions to make before answering the questionnaire and Anita very patiently talked me through my decisions. I completed the questionnaire and two days later Anita delivered the perfect logo, in which she thoughtfully incorporated my answers and personality.   Anita is so cool – she gave me a couple of color variations to use for different backgrounds.

tonijohnsonlightmedAnd because Anita is so cool, you have the opportunity of getting your own New Brand Identity for $250 (a 75% discount off her usual charge) if you mention my blog.  Now how cool is that!?! If you check out her blog, you’ll see an example of another logo that she recently created, which looks pretty awesome to me.  Her website has a contact form or you can contact me for her email address.  Thanks, Anita!

One final piece of business, if you don’t mind.  You might have noticed a couple of VFXY buttons down below the comments section.  Please take a moment to check out my recently added photoblog there.  If you are a VFXY member, I would appreciate it if you gave me a rating - I don’t like being a zero.  Thanks!

The building looks great in both shots… fun to see the detail unfold. Your branding is awesome!

I like both captures. This structure looks very much like an old train depot in a small town here. As a matter of fact, it was red and they repainting it this color. They call it butternut, which they say was the original color. The mist over these shots are exceptional and I love the logo too:-)

Love the fog and the mood you’ve captured/created. Interesting to see the lensbaby and this image side by side and together.

Hey, this is all very swish and upmarket, Toni. Do I have to address you as M’am every time I visit ha ha

It looks great, and you should be very proud of yourself. Love both of these shots, so atmospheric and artistic in capture. I’m going back to my blog now, I feel like a poor relation…. ha ha

You are awesome I don’t care what Diane says. :)
The shots are great and full of detail. Thanks. Its a very cool looking building and I guess those are weeds on the ground but they really make the whole shot very interesting. I will hit your VFXY button and add you to my favorites and give you a good rating.

well I don’t believe I’ve ever criticized the photos, just stated that I’m not a fan of LensBaby. I find your photos beautiful and make a point of sharing specifically what I find appealing or that works so well and I just ignore the LensBaby. Anyway, I adore that top photo in particular for many reasons: the angle of the building, the placement in the frame, that fantastic fog, and how the grasses really seem to create a ‘bed’.
The bottom one allows us to see some of the detail.

Great watermark she created for you! Really nice work. It’s kind of exciting isn’t it?

Diane, my tongue was firmly in cheek when I was writing. I know it is the Lensbaby you don’t like and I forgive you for that. :D (Tongue still firmly in cheek.) I appreciate all of your comments.

Very interesting building. Maybe it was some sort of factory at one time. I love mysteries like these. I also love the shot with and without lensbaby. And although I wouldn’t use it all the time, it’s definitely at the top of my wish list.
