For those who might be new to my blog, I am based in the Columbia Basin of Washington state. I love using natural light to capture agriculture, flowers, and the world around me. I also do portrait and pet photography, as the occasion arises.

Winter Trees

February 10, 2009

Winter Tree

By Sylvia Plath

The wet dawn inks are doing their blue dissolve.
On their blotter of fog the trees
Seem a botanical drawing –
Memories growing, ring on ring,
A series of weddings.

Knowing neither abortions nor bitchery,
Truer than women,
They seed so effortlessly!
Tasting the winds, that are footless,
Waist-deep in history –

Full of wings, otherworldliness.
In this, they are Ledas.
O mother of leaves and sweetness
Who are these pietàs?
The shadows of ringdoves chanting, but chasing nothing.

In case you were wondering, it is a different tree than yesterday.

I like the distinctive and wide range of blur in this image. It looks like a lensbaby effect that makes it very unusual but attractive. Fine image.

Oh goodness, I really love this. And the poem by Plath is so wonderful — I’ve never read that one before.

You’ve allowed this tree to be majestic and I love that you didn’t move back to get every little branch in the frame — that’s what adds to the magnificence of this tree, as well as that wonderful fog/mist. Beautiful.

“WINTER TREE” This is the image I pick for my “prize!” I love tree silhouettes and this is an especially nice one. I love black and white and the way this is processed. And, I love rural scenes. The mood of this piece takes me back to my childhood; fond memories of my grandparents farm.

And, in case you are wondering — “Through the Mist” was a close second in my deliberation!

    Again, a huge Thank You!
